Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds Ian Borg announced the launch of the official EU Presidency blog.

This digital media platform, which is accessible from the Presidency portal eu2017.mt, is another important communication channel being used by the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU to bring the EU closer to its citizens.

The Malta-EU Steering & Action Committee (MEUSAC) has been entrusted with the coordination of the Presidency blog. MEUSAC has engaged a number of experts, opinion writers and academics to provide regular contributions on policy issues that will be discussed during Malta’s term at the helm of the Council of the European Union.

Ian Borg, along with Tonio Borg, who served as European Commissioner, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Professor Stephen Calleya  will write an opinion pieces about the Maltese priorities on a European level namely, migration, the single market, security, social inclusion, Europe’s neighbourhood, and maritime.

“MEUSAC has a key role to play in the dissemination of EU-related information. We both share the same credo—that of bringing the European Union closer to its citizens. So teaming up with MEUSAC for this project was a natural process. We hope that through this collaboration we will be able to come up and leave a mark on society, and help the general public to better understand the role and dynamics of the European Union.“

Head of MEUSAC Vanni Xuereb stated that MEUSAC is fully committed to intensifying its role of communicating on EU issues. During the Presidency, and in view of the debate on the future of the EU post-Brexit, MEUSAC is also looking forward to coordinating the blog, thereby serving as a platform for the voicing of various opinions by leading personalities in Malta.

All content uploaded on the blog will also be shared on social media via the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the EU Presidency in order to encourage more engagement with the general public.
