Former Prime Minister and President Emeritus Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday described Lino Arrigo Azzopardi, who passed away earlier this week, as an exceptional photographer.

The former President told The Malta Independent how he recalled Mr Arrigo Azzopardi as a diligent worker, and as being full of initiative. "I remember him attending conferences without him being called to cover them. He would still take the initiative."

Dr Fenech Adami praised Arrigo Azzopardi's photographic skills as "remarkable".

Press photographer Lino Arrigo Azzopardi passed away on Tuesday at age 77.

He had a long career with the Department of Information, and shot a number of Malta's memorable events including Malta's accession to the European Union back in 2004.

He had also covered Malta's Independence celebrations back in 1964. Through his camera, he captured Malta's most historic moments.

His funeral will be held this morning at 8.30 am at the Santa Lucija Parish Church.

The Institute of Maltese Journalists described him as an example of professionalism, as a man who was and will remain an inspiration to all journalists.

"Everyone who knew him will definitely carry fond memories".
