Miriam Dalli confirmed as S&D Coordinator for the Environment and Public Health Committee

Maltese MEP Miriam Dalli has been confirmed as coordinator for the Socialist and Democrat’s political group for the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee.

The committee, counting 69 Members is the leading legislative Committee of the European Parliament. It deals with legislation aimed at addressing environment and climate issues, improving food information to consumers and proposing European solutions to public health issues.Dr Dalli stated that her aim is to ensure that citizens’ interests are at the core of any decision taken by the S&D Environment Committee Members.

“The Socialists and Democrats will continue putting the environment and citizens’ rights at the forefront of the decisions we take. We will make sure to be the progressive force that will stand up for a better world for our children. We will be the political group that will defend our citizens’ health,” Miriam Dalli emphasized.

The Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee is responsible for a wide range of policy areas including air and water pollution, the circular economy and a resource-efficient and sustainable Europe. The fight against climate change is also at the core of the committee’s work.

As the spokesperson for Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Miriam Dalli will be coordinating the S&D position on a number of positions and legislations that fall within the competence of the committee.
