The Institute of Tourism Studies won 20 awards in UK's largest food service and hospitality show, the Great Hospitality Show competition which was held between 23 and 25 January at the NEC Birmingham.
Six students from the HND course participated in the competition. The awards won by the students are three gold best in class, two silver best in class, junior chef of the year, five silver medals, five bronze medals, two merit certificates and two supplementary awards one of which for best pastry exhibit in show and the other the prestigious Chairman of Judges award.
Chief Executive Officer Pierre Fenech remarked how, "This was the first experience for the students taking part in a competition abroad. Apart from being a great achievement for the Institute, it is also an achievement for Malta which should make us proud of the capabilities of our students.
"The result emanates from the hard teamwork and determination of our students and academic staff assisted by three chefs from the industry."
The Institute will be participating in similar competitions in the near future as these are an avenue for the students to develop their ideas and exhibit their talents internationally.
