The Malta Society of Arts (MSA) is delighted to share its autumn-winter courses programme. The duration of the course varies, with most of them running from October through to January 2027 at the Palazzo de La Salle in Valletta. The selection of courses ranges across traditional handicrafts, such as lace-making (bizzilla) and bookbinding, and courses that encourage the reframing of art and craft practices, such as Contemporary weaving and Sustainable art making with natural materials.
The assorted visual arts courses on offer cover an array of media and are tailored for different levels and age groups. There are art classes for children, teenagers, adults, and mature students - designed for a variety of purposes ranging across introductory sessions, art for leisure, art for mindfulness, and O-level preparation. Other visual arts and media represented in the programme include clay modelling; creating a digital storybook; AI for artists; art workshops for groups; pencil drawing; charcoal and oil painting. Exciting new visual arts courses include Sustainable art making with natural materials, and Introducing mindfulness through arts and crafts. The course A companion to film guides students towards a more nuanced appreciation of film and film-making, by introducing them to different critical approaches to film, enabling them to gain a better understanding of film techniques and genres, and broadening their knowledge of world cinema. This will conclude with an exclusive tour of the Malta Film Studios at Fort Ricasoli.
The highly-requested recurring applied arts courses in dressmaking, knitting, sewing for beginners, lace-making, tailoring, crochet, and creative writing will return in October. All are open to beginners, as well as returning students. Bookbinding is back due to popular demand, after last year's successful workshop. The programme also features new courses in the applied arts: Contemporary weaving, Sewing a vintage teddy bear, and Creative writing for 11- to 15-year-olds.
The MSA's winter performing arts courses offer introductions to a diverse selection of musical instruments, namely double bass, piano, electric/acoustic/classical guitar, and violin. For those looking to bolster their confidence and communication skills, there is a course in Public speaking and presentation skills, which provides supportive guidance in interactive sessions.
