A PN-government would add 30,000 new 'quality jobs' in the private sector, PN leader Simon Busuttil announced at a press conference in Ta' Xbiex which outlined the party's economic vision.

A new PM government would also increase the average wage in the industry by 25%-30%.

Dr Busuttil also said that it would be his government's goal would be to register a surplus in the budget every year in order to begin reducing national debt.

"We will enshrine in the constitution the obligation that the budget remains balanced, except in extreme circumstances like a recession."

A PN-government would also begin immediately to re-build the country's reputation abroad.

"The EU Presidency was meant to be a historic moment for our country. Instead of looking at the country positively, they are seeing it in the midst of an electoral campaign which was called because of the crisis the government collapsed into"

Dr Busuttil said that his government would also consolidate the financial services, gaming, aviation, pharmacy, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, maritime, and logistic sectors.

"We will be more innovative and be ahead of the competitors. We will set a new direction for these sectors, who are depending on the result on 3 June."

A PN government would establish an economic council that would provide advice to the PM about the sustainability of the economy, and the opportunities and risks of government policies and project.

"It will be composed of people of integrity and experience."

He went on to say that the PN would appoint a Special Brexit Envoy to represent the country in order to see how it would affect the country, and to examine the opportunities available.

He began the press conference by saying that a strong economy is not based on statistics, but an economy reality were wealth is spread equally.

"For the PN, it must become an economy for the people."

"We will use a modern sustainable model which is built on innovation and uses the talent of the country's human resources"

He said that the economy, which is performing well, is built on foundations laid by the PN.

"We have good track record of establishing new industries. Our vision has already transformed our economy. And after four years, the Labour Party has not launched one area."

PL media told Dr Busuttil that the labour government had introduced a number of new sectors such as Crane Currency, the American University of Malta, VGH, and Barts Medical School.

"Keith Schembri is involved in Crane Currency," Dr Busuttil replied,"They said they were providing €100 million but it turns out that Malta Enterprise and the taxpayer are providing a guarantee. We are in a country controlled by Keith Schembri."

On the AUM, he confirmed that the PN-government would not allow construction on Zonqor Point and would immediately find a different site which was already developed.

Dr Busuttil said that the privatisation of the country's hospitals was 'the biggest insult', particularly Gozitans.

"The first day the Gozo Minister is selected, he will go to the hospital to inform them that the government will be taking it back."

With respect to Barts, the PN manifesto for Gozo states that they intend to keep the educational establishment.

When asked about the property sector, he said it was imperative that those who may be performing under a labour government must recognise that they are reliant on the foreign investment and workers.

"The sectors are one in the same. If the gaming and financial services sectors leave, the property sector will go too.
