Prime Minister Joseph Muscat called a press conference today, to further explain the costings of the PL proposals in their manifesto, while at the same time slamming the costings of the PN electoral proposals.

Regarding the PL proposals, the Prime Minister said that the extension of childcare services would cost €21 million, their proposed pension increases would cost €38 million, reduction in tax on part-time work would cost €4 million, tax exemptions for students studying for a Masters or a PHD would cost €3 million and the increase in children's allowance and free school transport would cost €21 million.

The PL's proposals regarding a reduction in income tax would cost €46 million, he said, while the removal of MATSEC and SEC exam fees as well as incentives for apprenticeships would cost €2 million. Redoing all roads, he said, would cost Malta €100 million.

Turning to the PN proposals, the Prime Minister, together with Finance Minister Edward Scicluna and PL candidate Gavin Gulia, slammed the PN costings. On the PN Services pension and widowers pension proposals, they argued that the PN has not given any costings, but said that it would come to around €138 million. On raising minimum pensions, as proposed by the PN, they said would cost €125 million rather than €18.5 million as the PN has said.

When it comes to tax reductions, thy said, the PN schemes would cost €250 million not €129 million as the PN has said.

.Dr Muscat warned of that the PN costs for their proposals do not make sense. "We expected the PN, after four years in opposition, to come and present a clear and realistic plan."
