Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil this evening said that no threats or pressure will stop him from speaking out and taking action against corruption.

In an emotional speech, addressing a particularly large crowd during a political event in Mosta, Dr Busuttil spoke about the 'risk' that revealing information in such situations brings with it.
"There's a risk here," he said, "but no threat is going to stop me from giving a voice to Malta and Gozo, and I am holding responsibility for what I am doing."

Dr Busuttil told those present, "this morning, I had to go to courts again, the Leader of the Opposition had to go to, because the Police Commissioner, Attorney General, Prime Minister did nothing. For the Prime Minister, what is good is bad and what is bad is good, so because they do nothing I have to do something myself."

"You present evidence to the Prime Minister and he says it's not true, with evidence under his nose, under his eyes, yet he doesn't notice it, he doesn't want to see the truth, he wants to close his eyes to corruption," he said.

He then spoke about the risk that The Malta Independent content director Pierre Portelli is also taking when presenting information in court. "I acknowledge him for his courage," he said, "it is one thing if someone gets involved and is in politics, and it is another thing if they are in journalism"

He went on to state that what is happening in Malta is something which "only happens in Mafia films and books."
Refering to the email sent by the Prime Minister Chief of Staff Keith Schembri earlier today, Dr Busuttil said the email was sent to many people by "someone who never went out for an election, never asked for your trust".

Dr Busuttil went on to read out paragraphs from the email, where Keith Schembri got three points of the editorial and gave his interpretation.

"Who do you think you are fooling?" said Dr Busuttil, "do you think that Maltese citizens are stupid? They are intelligent."
"I can assure to Keith Schembri that there are not one but two pieces of evidence, but eight boxes of evidence."

The Nationalist Party Leader went on to reaffirm "I don't have a doubt that magistrates have enough information to come to a decision."

"Imagine what a disaster we will have in our country if Joseph Muscat wins, and Keith Schembri is sent to court accused of money laundering, he will spend a large majority of the rest of his life in jail," he said.

"What does Joseph Muscat expect? That Keith Schembri will stay there just because he wins the election? Is this the accountability he speaks of? Make it clear!"

Refering to a quote in the email were Keith Schembri denied that Joseph Muscat dismissed the evidence because he "established a magisterial inquiry", Dr Busuttil said, "there are three inquiries, two of them were opened because of evidence I gave and Joseph Muscat did not want to do anything with my evidence, instead of resigning"

"I don't have a doubt that Joseph Muscat isn't going to win next Saturday, how can you have doubt when you have clear evidence?" he said.

Commenting on Keith Schembri's statement that 'Joseph Muscat is his best friend' Dr Busuttil said, "that is why Joseph Muscat has to resign, not because he is his boss but his best friend, one is tied to the other, so if one falls the other falls together."

Spotted in the packed crowd at the event, was buisnessmen Zaren Vassallo.
