Sunday, 8 April 2018, 10:16 Last update: about 9 years ago

Mqabba                1

Zejtun C               1

Satruday Nanapere scored a last gasp equaliser to keep Zejtun hoping for a third place finish. The direct match against Mqabba only came to life in the second half when Mqabba forged ahead with an Ojoula header.

Zejtun made a good forcing but were rarely effective in front of goal until Nanapere's finish. The result practically ousts completley Mqabba from the promotion race, and leaves Zejtun with an outside chance. The real winners after this result were surely second placed Pieta who now enjoy a four-point lead over Zejtun.

The match failed to live to its expectations in the first half and was rather boring to watch. Zejtun were the better team in the opening twenty minutes but Mqabba dominated play for the rest of the first half.

Scoring chances were however very rare with Castano going near for Zejtun with a beautiful shot on the trun brilliantly saved by Debono. On 34 minutes Mqabba had their best move with Chimezie winning the ball in midfiedk before passing towards Michael Borg who in turn passed towards Karl Cutajar whose effor slightly missed the target

Six minutes from the break Zejtun goalkeeper Zarb saved his side when he blocked a close range header from Del Negro.

Four minutes into the second half Mqabba took the lead when from a Cutajar freekick, Noah Ojuola headed beautifully home. Zejtun now threw everything in attack but Mqabba defended with all their might.

Four minutes from time Debono saved his side when he blocked Ryan Dalli's close range effort and on the other end substitut Lyden Micallef missed a sitter in front of goal. On 90 minutes Zejtun saved the game when Yessous camilleri headed towards Saturday Nanapere who hammered home from close range.

Pieta consolidate second spot with Mensah brace

Zabbar SP             0
Pieta H                  2

Pieta Hotspur marched on yesterday easily seeing off lowly Zabbar to consolidate second spot in the standings. It was a well deserved victory for Pieta who dominated the match for long stretches with Zabbar never coming to grips with their opponents. Gabriel Mensah scored a brace in the first half to bring his tally to eight goals so far this season.

Pieta dominated the first half with Zabbar practically always on the receiving end. Pieta's pressure yielded the desired effect on 24 minutes when Jan Busuttil ripped apart the Zabbar defence with an incredible run before serving Artiaga who crossed towards the unmarked Gabreil Mensah who easily headed home from close range.

Pieta controlled the match and doubled the score four minutes from the break wne Artiaga passed towards Gabreil Mensah who raced his way from the centre circle leaving Karl Sacco and the goalkeeper in his wake before slotting home.

In the second half Pieta left more breathing space to their opponents who however failed to create scoring opportunities. On their part Pieta toyed with their opponents with Artiaga and Busuttil in splendid form, with the latter missing a sitter past the hour.
