Entrepreneur Hugo Chetcuti has died six days after he was stabbed in Paceville.

Chetcuti, 52, was stabbed twice in the stomach by a former employee.

He had been receiving care at Mater Dei Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where he underwent a number of surgical interventions. His brother Isaac said on Facebook that the "worst is over" a day after the stabbing, but matters took a turn for the worse in subsequent days until his death earlier today.

A Serbian man has been arraigned with attempted murder, charges that will inevtiably be changed to murder following Chetcuti's death.

Chetcuti was stabbed in an outlet he runs in Santa Rita Street, corner with St george's Road.

Chetcuti was a renowned businesman whose establishments carried his name - Hugo.

The Serbian man who is accused of stabbing him, Bojan Cmelik (right, photo Net News), aged 35, was arrested by the police in Balluta Bay minutes after running away from the bar. Cmelik was arraigned on Saturday morning, barely 12 hours after the incident. Cmelik was a former employee in one of the outlets run by Chetcuti. He was dismissed eight months ago.
