Balzan made history on Thursday when they qualified to next round of a European competition for the first time in their history.

Balzan were yesterday beaten in Azerbaijan by FK Kesla, but their impressive 4-1 victory at Ta' Qali seven days ago, was enough to see the locals through.

However, it was not an easy ride for Balzan, as they suffered an early goal, a goal which gave Kesla that added boost to push forward in search for more.

The final minutes were exciting with Balzan suffering a second goal, and Kesla even going near a third, but substitute Majdevac put the issue beyond doubt when he pulled one back before being sent off.

On 11 minutes Kesla were awarded a penalty for a Ninad Slivic foul and Cesar Meza Colli made no mistake from the spot.

Balzan absorbed the pressure for long stretches but had some opportunities too, through Alfred Effiong.

Andrija Majdevac came in as a substitute on 85 minutes and soon was booked. On 90 minutes Kesla doubled the score through Alkhasov and almost scored a third minutes later but Denis Silva missed the opportunity.

Five minutes in stoppage and Balzan scored the goal that put the issue beyond doubt through Andrija Majdevac, with the same player receiving a second booking sixty seconds later.
