Total number of guests in hotels on the rise

Total guests and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during the second quarter of 2018 advanced by 9.9 per cent and 8.7 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2017.

The National Statistics Office has just released its figures relating to collective accommodation.

In the second quarter, total guests in collective accommodation establishments numbered 557,238, while total nights spent amounted to 2,805,517. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 1,298,937 nights, or 46.3 per cent of the total.

The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down to 5.0 nights in the second quarter of 2018 from the average of 5.1 nights registered during the same quarter of 2017. The net use of bed-places stood at 74.9 per cent, up by 4.5 percentage points when compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the NSO said.

During June 2018, there were 196 active collective accommodation establishments with a net capacity of 18,505 bedrooms and 41,881 bed-places on a national level.

January-June 2018

Total guests in the first six months of 2018 amounted to 954,759, an increase of 12.5 per cent over the same period in 2017. Total nights spent went up by 10.2 per cent, reaching nearly 4.7 million. The net use of bed-places advanced by 3.6 percentage points to 64.1 per cent.
