Vittoriosa S: C. Cassar, C. Spiteri, I. Abela, R. Previ, K. Degiorgio (J. Pace 77'), G. Sultana (P. Papadakis 65'), J. Ogunnupe, N. Ojuola, M. De Souza Diaz, L. Casha (A. Cilia Mumford 70'), T. Abela Wilson.

Referee: Ishmael Barbara

Scorers: L. Casha 12', J. Ogunnupe 27'

Two goals scored inside the first half an hour of the game gave Vittoriosa their third successive victory, as the Stars moved further up in the table and above the same Lija. For Lija Athletics this was the first defeat of the season.

Vittoriosa were the better teameven though Lija did the early running and held the upper hand for long stretches in the first half. But a defensive blunder and a near perfect finish by Luca Casha gave Vittoriosa an early lead.

Lija somehow never really recovered from this setback. Erjon Beu's absence was sorely felt by Lija as they lacked vision and flair in attack. After Ogunnupe's goal on 27 minutes the game was dead and buried as Lija failed to hit back, with Bello Osagie missing a sitter at the start of the second half, a chance that could have changed the outcome of this game.

San Gwann-Naxxar L      1-4

San Gwann: C. Formosa, K. Bailey (P. Kanzurov 78'), J. Azzopardi, R. Zammit (A. Cachia 62'), A. Borg, R. Ledesma, C. Gauci, K. Gatt, J. Tanti, A. Abela, G. Henshaw (N. Melo Ferreira 54').

Naxxar L: O. Borg, R. Mercieca, M. Fenech, M. Mifsud, D. Bonnici (J. Grech 90'), A. Azzopardi (P. Ellul 80'), R. Cassar, J. Ellul, C. Bugeja (G. Grima 90'), A. Buhagiar, S. Meilak.

Referee: Slobodan Petrovic

Scorers: D. Bonnici 29' pen, 31', 88' (N), J. Tanti 68' pen (SG), A. Buhagiar 73' (N)

Naxxar Lions finally obtained their first victory of the season, beating bottom of the table side San Gwann, with Duane Bonici the Lions' hero scoring a hat trick. This could prove to be a vital victory for the Lions, a victory that could end a very difficult start to the season.

On the other hand San Gwann are now in a free fall, with yesterday's defeat being the seventh consecutive one this season as they are still in search of the first point.

Naxxar built a two goal cushion in the first half with two goals from Duane Bonnici, the first one from the penalty spot. In the second half San Gwann came back to a Jan Tanti penalty, but two goals from Angus Buhagiar and the third from Duane Bonnici sealed the issue for the Lions.
