267 police reports of domestic violence on persons aged 60 and above were filed in 2017 and 2018, Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia said in Parliament, quoting from police data.

He was answering a parliamentary question from MP Etienne Grech.

Farrugia said that the police reports are categorised depending on the type of criminal act.

He explained that although the report states that the person over 60 would be the victim, in reality, the report might include more than one person who would be involved in that accident, therefore it is not always the case that the senior is the victim.

In 2017, there were 124 reports were regarding cases of domestic violence, whilst in 2018 the number increased to 143 cases.

There were 48 cases of Snatch and Grab in 2017 and 49 the following year.

In 2017 there were 9 reports of mugging. 5 reports were filed the following year.

In total, 259 reports were filed in 2017 and 311 in 2018.
