MEP ranking: Malta’s most active MEP in last 5 years is Roberta Metsola

Monday, 29 April 2019, 14:18 Last update: about 7 years ago

After gathering and analysing data related to the work done by MEPs for the past five-years, authoritative website http://mepranking.eu/state.php?st=MT#meps has named MEP Roberta Metsola as Malta and Gozo’s most active MEP. She is the only Maltese MEP to make the top 30 MEPs overall.

The ranking was announced after the last European Parliament plenary session signalled the end of the 2014-2019 legislature. It takes into account a factual analysis of every different activity undertaken by all Members of the European Parliament, including laws drafted, voting record, legal amendments, speeches, voting transparency, Parliamentary role and more.

The quantitative and qualitative analysis behind this authoritative EU-wide ranking is unlike others that take just one aspect of MEP’s work into consideration, a statement issued by Metsola's office said.

MEP Metsola’s ranking puts her at the very top of all EPP Group MEPs, behind President Antonio Tajani and Group Chairman Manfred Weber.

In the last legislature Roberta Metsola has won the prestigious MEP of the Year award twice and was named as one the top ten young leaders of the world in 2017.

Throughout the legislature Roberta Metsola has been at the forefront of pushing forward a European agenda that suits the reality in Malta and Gozo, keeping in constant contact with different stakeholders to ensure they have the opportunity to give their input into any new legislation or initiative passed on a European level. She recently managed to pass a new EU border security law that will see 10,000 additional border guards at Europe’s external borders.

Commenting on the announcement, MEP Metsola said: “It is always nice to have some acknowledgement of the work done and to be recognised by such an authoritative forum is honour for indeed, but – even if we may not always agree - every Maltese MEP works hard for the people we represent. When I was elected as a Member of the European Parliament, I promised Maltese and Gozitans, that I will represent all their interests, work hard, and always stand up for the values that distinguish us as Maltese – and I’m pleased that has been recognised today. Now it’s back to work.”
