The Education Ministry has published a sex education book that is being taught to Year 6 students and which raised controversy this weekend after a parent criticised the way her child was receiving such education.
The Education Ministry on Sunday criticised ‘false and irresponsible’ posts on Facebook that throw bad light on the teaching of sexuality in government schools.
A mother had uploaded a Facebook post saying that her daughter is being subjected to ‘diabolical’ teaching about sexual situations for which she is too young.
The syllabus for year 6 discusses the development of sexuality within the context of a relationship built on love. The way the subject is taught is “decent and suitable” for children at that age.
