Some 5,000 tonnes of tomatoes are being processed to produce tomato products at the Magro Brothers plant in Xewkija, the Department of Information said in a statement.

Parliamentary Secretary Clint Camilleri paid a visit to the plant where he was shown around by chairperson John Magro.

Camilleri said the government had made sure that some €6 million in direct assistance are earmarked to be given to farmers who produce tomatoes between 2021 and 2027.

Tomatoes arrive at the plant soon after being cut and the processing is finished within 24 hours.
