Updated: Armed forces rescue 162 migrants in two separate operations

162 migrants were rescued by the armed forces and brought to Malta earlier today.

In a statement, the AFM said they had coordinated and conducted two separate rescue operations in Malta's Search and Rescue Region.

The migrants were transferred on board the AFM's patrol vessels and were brought top the maritime squadron base at Haywharf.

The first group consisted of 73 migrants while the second consisted of 89 people.
