The Civil Protection Department received 10 new vehicles on Wednesday through an investment of €170,000 by the government, and these were inaugurated at their headquarters in Ħal Far.

Speaking at a news conference, Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Michael Farrugia celebrated the investment, noting that when he took over the responsibility of his Ministry he found a number of plans being evaluated.

The minister said that while he had seen reports and plans to upgrade the Civil Protection Department's fleet, the time had come to implement what was originally on paper.

Farrugia said that, as from last week, desktop exercises began being calculated for every natural or man-made accident that may happen in Malta. He maintained that from the exercises he witnessed, the Civil Protection Department would always need to be a part of whatever scenario takes place.

Civil Protection Department Chief Emmanuel Psaila added that the ongoing process of upgrading the department is necessary due to the increased responsibilities being taken on by the CPD.
