Pro-abortion and anti-abortion activists were busy promoting their views in two parts of Valletta this afternoon.

On the occasion of International Safe Abortion Day, Voice for Choice organised Malta's first Rally for Choice at the Hastings Garden, while the anti-abortion group staged their manifestation in Republic Street.

Malta's first pro-choice rally - in favour of abotion - is registered as part of the international movement to commemorate International Safe Abortion Day www.september28.org 

Voice for Choice is the first Maltese pro-choice coalition made up of civil society organisations and individuals who together want to campaign for reproductive rights and justice in Malta. We are grassroot organisations that represent various sectors of our society, as well as individuals that are passionate about reproductive health and rights. 

Current organisations members of the coalition are: Aditus, Doctors for Choice, Integra, Malta Humanist Association, Moviment Graffitti, Men Against Violence, Women’s Rights Foundation and Young Progressive Beings.

For their part, the group campaigning against the legalisation of abortion said their activity was to raise awareness about the rights of the unborn child, who is defenceless.

“We are fighting for the unborn and silent,” one activist said.
