Minister Ian Borg visited the new offices for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit within Transport Malta offices in Ħal Lija.
Minister Borg explained that as from Monday 4 November these offices will be providing most of the services that to date are being offered only by Transport Malta offices in Paola. This development by Transport Malta is in favour of more points of contact with the public and to improve accessibility.
“To date, the offices of Transport Malta in Paola see around 500 clients daily, with the number of transactions reaching 400 with respect to the vehicle services and 110 in relation to driver services. Therefore, with this improvement, we will continue reforming the services given by decentralising in favour of more accessibility for whoever lives or works in the North of Malta and in favour of more efficiency,” said Minister Borg.
He explained that now, the work being done by the authority for transport is more focused on the role as a regulator, and thanks to the step taken more than one year ago where the roles of the regulator and implementer were split, today the authority can concentrate more on certain aspects such as promoting the initiatives related to sustainable transport, educating with regards to responsible driving, revisions and reforms on the several legislation such as the Public Service Garage and Micromobility, working on the maritime and aviation sectors to continue reaching more objectives as well as all those aspects that the public has to face regularly such as licensing issues.
“Today we are here to announce the extension of services for clients looking for more comfort and thus now they can choose from which location to be served. We have implemented different reforms in the past such as the introduction of online services and the possibility of renewing road licenses from the insurance agents, but we are also aware that we need to continue offering certain services over the counter. We are also aware that we need to continue improving services so that the public can be served in the best way possible,” concluded Minister Borg as he thanked all those involved in the setting up of the new offices as well as all the employees that daily serve the general public.
