Parliament approves rent reform law

Yesterday, Parliament passed the new rent reform bill unanimously, a government statement read. The new law will give peace of mind, stability and predictability to owners as well as people who rent property to live in.

The Parliamentary Secretary responsible for the reform, Roderick Galdes, said that the reform will come into force in January.

Galdes said: "This vote is the result of widespread consultation with various stakeholders, and is the fruit of extensive research. I thank everyone who took part in it, and we are now working on the implementation of this law."

The Housing Authority, as part of the reform, will be strengthened with more resources, and a team will be set up to implement the reforms, he said.
