Watch: Rain, roads closure makes it almost impossible to get out of the south

Saturday, 9 November 2019, 13:47 Last update: about 5 years ago

Today’s closure of Sir Paul Boffa Avenue – direction north – added to the closure of the northbound lanes along Santa Lucija Avenue (Addolorata Hill) has made it almost impossible for drivers to make it from the south to the north of Malta today.

Add the rain to all this – and at times it was a heavy downpour – and the situation was more unbearable for the many drivers who took much longer than usual to get from point A in the south to point B in the north.

Drivers reported traffic slowed down to a standstill in several areas in the south – Bulebel, Santa Lucija and Paola – as drivers tried to find alternatives. There is a huge congestion at the Santa Lucija roundabout, with traffic on Tal-Barrani and Luqa roads is almost at a standstill

Sir Paul Boffa Avenue was closed today as work on the laying of the longest of the seven flyovers being built at the Marsa junction takes place, while the northbound section of the Addolorata Hill is closed for several months as a tunnel is being constructed there.
