Nationalist Party Leader Adrian Delia is in talks with his predecessor, Simon Busuttil, to form part of a reshuffled PN shadow cabinet, informed sources have told The Malta Independent.
“Hushed up” meetings between the two have taken place over the past few weeks and not much else is known about the situation. The Malta Independent understands, however, that Busuttil has accepted the offer.
It is not yet known whether Delia will give Busuttil the Good Governance portfolio. The PN leader had taken the portfolio away from Busuttil after the Egrant inquiry conclusions came out. The conclusions found that there was no proof to link Joseph Muscat and his wife Michelle to the third Panama company – Egrant.
Sources said the party is waiting for the “right time” to announce the reshuffle.
“The reinstatement of Simon Busuttil is part of a greater effort to unite the factions of the party, as they are realising that they have to set apart their differences and unite to fight this corrupt Government,” a source said.
“By remaining divided only Joseph Muscat and Labour will win and justice will not be truly served,” the source continued.”
It is understood that these efforts have been ongoing for a number of months. A few days ago, the PN thanked Simon Busuttil in a resolution adopted unanimously by the party’s Executive Committee.
