Watch: We need to go back to road of normality, Malta deserves better – President

Tuesday, 3 December 2019, 20:09 Last update: about 5 years ago

We need to go back to the road of normality before the damage that is being caused to Malta becomes irreparable, President George Vella said this evening.

In a brief address to the nation broadcast on national television, Vella once again appealed for calm and respect, saying that the institutions should be allowed to work for justice to be carried out.

He said that he is doing everything in his constitutional powers in a situation which he described as being “serious”, saying that everyone should take responsibility for one’s actions.

Vella said that the seriousness of the situation was highlighted in a meeting he had with the social partners who are members of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

He said that every day that passes, the expectations of his intervention to avoid the worst were increasing. He again appealed to everyone, from top to bottom, to consider what his or her actions might lead to.

The President said eveyone should understand his or her responsibilities  and, away from any spontaneous reactions, we must ponder on the circumstances we are going through and find ways to unite.

Malta deserves better, he said.
