When addressing the sixth edition of Sigma, parliamentary secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation Silvio Schembri said that, in view of such challenging times, this government reiterates its commitment to strengthen Malta's reputation in this thriving industry.

"At such a juncture, this increases the importance for the regulator to keep on carrying out its work diligently and be in a better position to tackle challenges within the industry as they arise," said Schembri.

Schembri said that, in the same way Malta established itself as an international hub for the gaming industry, it will soon establish itself as an epicentre for the fledgling industry of eSports and video game development.

"With a holistic strategy in place, our ambition is not only to distinguish support and develop local talent up to a professional level and create job opportunities in the digital art sector, while attracting valuable eSports tourism. Our commitment towards this new economic niche has put Malta as one of the few countries in the world to support this sector on a governmental level and we are adamant that we shall continue in this vein, which will ultimately continue to strengthen and amalgamate our holistic ecosystem," the parliamentary secretary said.

Schembri reiterated the commitment to sustain the prestige associated with the Maltese licence, as well as to maintain our country's reputation as the home of gaming excellence.
