Former President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca has called for all those who are linked to the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia to be immediately removed.

Writing on Facebook, the former President said that in Malta's history, "as a people, we always stood for the values of honesty, altruism, genuineness, integrity... this was, always, our Maltese identity."

"With what has happened, that shocked everyone, our identity was stolen," she said, clearly referring to the assassination and the more recent news surrounding the investigation.

She joined appeals for the Maltese people to unite, to again rebuild the country anew, a country that reflects who we are.

She told politicians to ignore their personal interests and start the healing process immediately under the leadership of a person who has the credentials to pull the country out of crisis.

 The former President argued that "we cannot let this perilous situation continue, "not even for one more day."

"We have honest politicians with integrity," saying that it is just a few who are puppets on a string.
