Mater Dei hospital is currently undergoing preparations and works necessary for robots which will distribute medicine in the hospital halls and part of the project includes strengthening the pneumatic tubes system at Mater Dei Hospital.

Through the pneumatic tubes system, the medicine prescribed by a doctor in one ward can be delivered in another room in a matter of seconds.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne said that innovation is key for the future.

Mater Dei Hospital is not only excelling in innovation in the field of distribution of medicine, but is also underway with final preparations so that next year the number of transactions will be conducted with the assistance of the first surgical robot in the country,” Fearne said.

A number of rooms are being fitted with touch screen cabinets to house the medicine sent directly from the hall through the pneumatic tubes. This robotic system, which allows the transport of medicine in Mater Dei Hospital, is an innovative system which is changing the provision of medicine in hospital.

This system will not only reduce human error but also provide the patients medicine immediately.

There are already a number of robots installed in the hospital, one being in the pharmacy and another in the CPSU, the department which distributes medicine and medical equipment.
