A man was seriously injured on Tuesday evening during a botched hold-up attempt, the police said.

The incident took place in Santa Katarina Street, Qormi, at 11pm.

The man, aged 72, was attacked by three unknown persons who, however, then made off without stealing anything.

The man was however seriously injured and needed treatment in hospital.

The police are searching for the three men involved.
