The Coronavirus pandemic has this year led to a very different kind of Good Friday since all public activities have been cancelled in order to stop the spread of Covid-19.

On this day, 16 localities around Malta and Gozo usually hold traditional Good Friday processions, with statues depicting the passion and death of Jesus Christ.

But the streets are empty today, and village squares are quiet, with only the sound of the cuqlajta occasionally breaking the silence.

Many churches are open for adoration, and the Good Friday statues have been lined up inside for viewing.

We have chosen as the main photo with this story, however, a more powerful image - a group of Covid-19 frontline nurses joining hands in prayer at Mater Dei Hospital.

The nurse who uploaded the photo above said the nurses gathered to pray for help from God in this current situation. She also appealed to people to stay safe and stay inside.
