Watch: Government to continue giving assistance, will be ‘tapered down’ later – minister

Monday, 18 May 2020, 09:36 Last update: about 7 years ago

The government will continue to give its assistance in the wake of the Coronavirus, and this will only be tapered down at a later stage when the situation improves, Minister Carmelo Abela said.

He was giving a brief comment to the media as he walked into the Castille offices this morning.

Over the past days the government has hinted that there will be a relaxation of more measures related to the containment of the Coronavirus spread. The news was well received by businesses but less so by the medical community, with the unions representing the doctors and nurses saying that the government should not give precedence to the economy over health.

Abela also confirmed indications that the government is looking into reopening of more outlets in the coming days, but said that an announcement is still to be made.
