Covid-19: Prison visits to resume on Friday

Tuesday, 2 June 2020, 16:26 Last update: about 5 years ago

Prison visits will resume on Friday as most of the remaining Covid-19 restrictive measures are removed, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

Physical contact, however, will not be allowed during the visits.

The ministry said the measures introduced at the prison were effective and not a single case of Covid-19 was reported.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that, while caution should always be exercised, this was a result of the contingency plan put in place at the prison.

Camilleri said that various means of communications were introduced in past weeks, and the use of phone calls and Skype will be retained even after the resumption of visits.

He also announced that prison warders, who have been working one-week shifts, will return to their normal routine.
