What is thought to be a wartime shelter has been found during roadworks in Pieta', Infrastructure Malta said.
A rock-cut passageway with religious icons carved into its walls was unearthed during the works.
The infrastructure agency said it is in talks with the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage to conduct further studies and identify the best methods to preserve it for future generations.
This was the latest in a series of historical finds made during infrastructural works in recent weeks.
