Former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to attend PN Executive Committee meeting

Former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi will be attending tonight’s PN Executive Committee meeting, he confirmed with The Malta Independent, and will participate in the discussion and possible votes.

Gonzi will attend as it is within his right as a former PN leader.

The Nationalist Party Executive Committee will be meeting this evening in what is expected to be a heated confrontation. The way forward is expected to be the main topic this evening, given the current situation, where last Tuesday the majority of the PN’s Parliamentary Group had voted to remove Delia as Opposition Leader.

Yesterday, President of Malta George Vella decreed that he will not be removing Delia from his post, despite him having lost the trust of the majority of Opposition MPs.#mce_temp_url#

Delia has remained adamant that he will remain in his position, stating that he was elected and reconfirmed by the party’s paid up members.

Former Prime Minister Gonzi however did not respond to questions as to whether he believes Adrian Delia should remain on as PN Leader or whether he agreed with the President’s decision.

During tonight’s meeting, Gonzi is expected to oppose proposals designed to punish individuals who dissented as it contradicts with what the PN stands for. He said that a way forward must be identified.

Attempts were also made to contact Louis Galea, however he immediately said ‘no comment’.
