District, Glitch, G7 and Sound Salon, four popular event organisers, have decided to postpone all upcoming events and parties in light of the recent COVID-19-related developments.

The statements were published on Wednesday morning; hours after a BBC report highlighted that Malta will be the festival hotspot this summer.

Whilst most clubs and festivals in Europe have been postponed to 2021, four large international music festivals are planned to take place in Malta during the next few months.

As of Wednesday morning, Malta had reached 99 active cases, after 65 migrants were tested positive. The number of cases however had already been on the increase, with 18 being related to a weekend-long hotel party which took place a week and a half ago.

The hotel party cluster has prompted calls from several associations for mass events to be banned again.

Both District and Sound Salon are well-known in the clubbing scene as both showcase various local house artists, and gather large local and foreign party-goers.

G7 and Sound Salon had been the organisers of the Hotel Takeover event, which had sparked controversy after attendees tested positive.

“After considering developments over the past week we have decided not to open this Friday. We feel that taking some time to have a better understanding of the recent increase in cases, and to ensure the safeguarding of your health, is the right thing to do,” the Sound Salon statement read.

Both organisers highlighted that they will continue to monitor the situation and decide on a week-by-week basis and continue to respect any updates to official regulations.

Glitch Club series, another party organiser have also cancelled their events, “until the foreseeable future.”

“We have been monitoring the situation very closely and in light of recent events we feel it’s time for us to take a step back. The Covid-19 pandemic is a reality we are living in, the circumstances are changing very quickly. The health and safety of our fans, artists and crew is paramount. We do not want anyone to put their love ones at risk.”

The group had already postponed their large main event, Glitch Festival, back in April for 2021.

Another popular party, Wrecked was to take place this Saturday has also been postponed due to the current spike in cases of COVID-19. The party is postponed to September/October according to their online statement.
