‘We will be the ones to vote in favour of democracy’, group of PN councillors say

Five PN members of the General Council have come out with a statement, urging councillors to back Adrian Delia in the upcoming General Council meeting.

Janice Chetcuti, Anton Debono, Andre Grech, Doriana Portelli and Nicole Zammit signed the statement.

The PN’s General Council will meet on Friday, and it will be an important process in the history of the party, they said.

“In it, the party councillors will be called to, yet again, confirm that we continue moving ahead with major reforms that took place over the past three years under the leadership of Adrian Delia.”

They said that from the beginning, there were major pushes from Delia for the new style of leadership, “and through the reforms, the party can begin to strengthen the PN’s values. This did not sit well with a few and as such today we find ourselves at a crossroads, and we need to reconfirm the choice which we had made once twice in previous votes.”

They said that the vote is a historic one, and said that the General Council was called by Delia himself, and that the vote keeps the party as one of the people. They spoke about honouring and affirming the vote of the thousands of tesserati who, in a democratic way, voted for Delia to be the party’s leader back in July 2017, and for the second time in July 2019.

“With a divided party we also know that we cannot seem credible, and less so can we win an election. We only win through a good work plan, drawn up by different people coming from different walks of life. A plan that Delia began three years ago as he believes in a single strong party, comprised of all of us.”

The councillors, they said, “have before them an important, crucial choice, where the party must remain belonging to everyone. The few objecting must find it within themselves to unite with the rest, so that the party can continue on its path to strengthen and again become the party it always was, one that offers solutions, that needs to be the priority so that the country can be returned its dignity.”

They commented on the scandals over the past years.

The party, they said, “should again become a winner through the reforms that have already begun functioning and that led to a new statute, that offers the continuity needed with just a few years or months before an election. All councillors should feel honoured that, for another time, it will be us that decide to vote in favour of democracy, in favour of the voice of the people, that should be heard as through our unity we will again be a victorious party behind one leader. The leader is Adrian Delia.”
