10 Armed Forces of Malta soldiers currently stationed in Lebanon are safe and sound after a massive explosion rocked the country’s capital Beirut on Tuesday evening.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri confirmed that the soldiers are safe, and said that his thoughts are with the Lebanese people.

Beirut was rocked by a huge explosion in what is believed to be a building which was storing some 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate which had been confiscated from a cargo ship back in 2014.

The death toll is now over 100 people, and thousands have been wounded while residents of Beirut woke up on Wednesday to a scene of utter devastation, with major downtown streets littered with debris and damaged vehicles along with blown out building facades.
