Tourism Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli is appealing to the public not to go to Valletta for the fireworks festival but to watch the spectacle on their TV at home.

The final of the Fireworks Festival will be screened on TVM, she wrote on Facebook. “On the advice of experts, the letting off of fireworks needs to be done because they have already been installed. It would be more dangerous to dismantle and relocate the fireworks,” she said.

The minister said that the festival near the old fisheries building in Valletta is cancelled.

The decision comes in the wake of a growing number of Coronavirus cases in the past few days.
