90% of government vouchers have been delivered to individuals, Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Minister Silvio Schembri said.
“90% of the government vouchers have been sent out and we have received very positive feedback from restaurants, bars and other stakeholders.”
The €100 government vouchers are part of the government’s economic recovery plan, and the vouchers are split into five €20 vouchers. Every person aged 16 and over is entitled to receiving the vouchers. The vouchers will need to be spent by the end of September.
Schembri explained that the 10% of those who did not receive their vouchers are primarily foreigners and had moved to a new residence.
“We have a lot of foreigners that rent and the change of their address would not have been recorded by Malta Post, but we have sorted this out and in the coming days they will be receiving the vouchers too.”
When asked regarding the Covid-19 wage supplement, which will end in September, Schembri said that the situation is constantly being evaluated.
“Wage supplement is not tied to the increase in COVID-19 cases but the economic activity. We recently had a meeting with the cabinet and the Chamber of Commerce where we received more feedback.”
He said that the government will continue to do everything to support and sustain Maltese and Gozitan families and businesses.
