Mount Carmel Hospital has closed for visitors with immediate effect after a cluster of cases with Covid-19 emerged in connection with the hospital.

The closure of the hospital for visitors is being done as preventive measure in order to ensure the safety of the hospital’s residents, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

A cluster of seven cases have been found at the hospital over the past two days, and the hospital’s administration said that they are being kept in isolation at Mount Carmel itself.

They condition is stable, they said.

All the other patients inside the San Gorg Preca ward are in quarantine, and the staff working in this ward are also in quarantine, with their situation being observed in the coming days.

Malta has 486 active cases of the virus, with the cluster at Mount Carmel Hospital being one of the most recently found.
