A 57-year old Maltese citizen who was wanted by authorities in the United States was arrested for serious crimes related to sexual activities with minors under the age of 16. 

These crimes were allegedly committed in the United States and the police confirmed that no crime of the same nature was committed in Malta by the arrested person. 

The man was arrested at his home in St. Paul’s Bay. 

The Maltese Central Intelligence and analysis police, together with the Maltese Interpol Police within the International Relations section arrested the man on Monday at around 7.15am. 

Weeks of investigations by the Maltese Police established that the man is living and working in Malta, the police said. 

The man is now expected to be taken to court in the coming days to begin extradition proceedings to the United States. 

The Prosecution will be conducted by the Maltese Interpol Police together with the lawyers within the Attorney General’s office.
