38 new cases of Covid-19 found, 52 recoveries registered

38 new cases of Covid-19 have been found by health authorities in the last 24 hours, with 52 new recoveries also being registered.

The number of active cases therefore has decreased by 14, to 666 cases.

The cases were found from a total of 2,048 swab tests – a number which takes the overall number of tests carried out up to 177,518.

Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated.

Giving details about the 55 cases found yesterday, authorities said that nine were family members of previously known cases, five were direct contacts of known cases, eight were work colleagues of positive cases, two were imported, and six are from contacts from social gatherings.

Malta has had a total of 1,705 cases of Covid-19 since the first case was found on 7 March, with 1,029 of those recovering and 10 passing away.

On 25 July - exactly a month ago, Malta had 686 cases - meaning that over 1,000 new cases of the virus have been registered in the past month.
