A Maltese inmate who was awaiting extradition to the US on charges of sexual abuse died this evening.

Nazzareno Mifsud, 57, was awaiting a court decision on an extradition request from the United States.

He was facing charges of having molested two boys and was on the wanted list since 1987. 

Prison officers administered first aid but Mifsud died in hospital soon after.
