Severe weather warning - Avoid low-lying areas: Flooding reported after heavy rainfall

A severe weather warning has been issued by The Weather Page on Facebook.

Flooding has been reported in several roads as heavy rains have been hitting Malta since early afternoon.

At around 3.15pm, the Weather Page has issued a warning about the deteriorating situation.

The Met Office also issued a warning about thundery and gusty showers, possibly with hail in places, ttat are affecting the Maltese Islands.

Low-lying areas such as Birkirkara, Msida, Qormi, Swieqi and Marsa have been inundated with rainwater and drivers are reporting low visibility in the heavy rains.

Drivers are advised to avoid roads notoriously known to retain rainwater. Several cars have been seen stalling in the water.

The rain is expected to continue in the coming hours and the Met Office is forecasting rain for tomorrow too.
