Tuesday, 27 October 2020, 12:36 Last update: about 5 years ago

107 new cases of Covid-19 were found in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced in their daily bulletin on the pandemic situation.

85 new recoveries were also registered in the same period.  It means that the number of active cases in Malta is continuing to increase, albeit at a slower pace than in past weeks, and now stands at 1,915.

The number of cases found has risen into the triple digits – where it was consistently for the past two weeks.  Indeed, it means that 13 out of the last 14 days saw over 100 cases of Covid-19 be reported.

The only exception to this trend is the 80 cases reported on Monday.

2,919 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases up to 323,634.

Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated, but gave details of the cases reported on Monday.

Out of the 80 cases reported on Monday, 9 were family members of previously known cases, 5 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 5 were direct contacts of other positive cases, 3 were from social gatherings, and 2 were imported.

Malta has now had a total of 5,685 cases of Covid-19.  3,715 of those have recovered, while the number of people to have died with Covid-19 has now risen to 55, after two more deaths – a 70-year-old and an 88-year-old – were reported on Tuesday morning.
