Former Justice Vincent DeGaetano will lead a committee to investigate lawyers over the alleged attempt to offer money to a journalist.

DeGaetano, a former judge on the European Court of Human Rights, will look into an incident involving two lawyers from the Yorgen Fenech defence team who allegedly offered money to a Times of Malta journalist.

The lawyers are Gianluca Caruana Curran, who allegedly attempted to hand over cash to journalist Ivan Martin, and Charles Mercieca, who was present at the time.

The two are representing Fenech, who is charged with being a mastermind in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017.

The matter is being investigated both by the police as well as the Commission for the Administration of Justice.
