A 77-year-old woman has died after falling down a flight of stairs in Rabat, police said in a statement on Friday.

The woman passed away at around 10:30 in the morning in Vjal il-Haddiem in Rabat.

Police said that preliminary investigations showed that the woman was walking down a flight of stairs in that road, when she tripped and fell.

A medical team tried to assist her, but she was certified as dead on the spot.

Duty Magistrate Rachel Montebello was informed of the case and appointed a magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations are on-going.
