Members within the San Gwann local council have defended the council after it organised a lunch for elderly people which led to 70 people being put in quarantine.

This comes following the report made by Public Health Superintendent Charmaine Gauci during her final Covid briefing for 2020. She revealed that another eight people tested positive for Covid-19 after attending the same lunch event.

Gauci warned the public against sociolising over the new year and to continue follow the measures which are in place to restrict the spread of Covid-19.

Members of the San Gwann local council spoke to both Lovin Malta and Times of Malta, and reported that “all legal protocols” were followed during this lunch event.

The temperature of all attending people was checked, the use of sanitisers was enforced and six people were seated for every table.

The eight people who contracted the virus, were four siblings who sat at the same table, and another two were a mother and daughter, Times of Malta reported.
