1,400 people received the Covid-19 vaccine in the first week, the health ministry told The Malta Independent.
The start of the new year brought the beginning of the vaccination campaign at St Vincent de Paul Home for the elderly. Mary Pizzuto became the first resident to be vaccinated against Covid-19 on 1 January. She is 94 years old.
Prior to this, the vaccine was only being administered to health frontliners in Maltese and Gozitan hospitals.
Currently, only the Pfizer vaccine is being used in Malta, but as time passes, a few other Covid-19 vaccines will also be made available in the country, once they are given the ok by the EU Medicine's agency,
