Sunday, 3 January 2021, 11:04 Last update: about 4 years ago

15-year-old Rebecca Zammit Lupi has lost her battle with cancer.

Rebecca, who was the daughter of well-known photographer Darrin Zammit Lupi, had for many months been fighting with cancer. Her father, who chronicled her battled, said on Facebook: "There's a new angel in the sky."

Puttinu Cares also posted a message on Facebook. "So heartbroken as we woke up today to the sad news of our silent hero Rebecca Zammit Lupi. Fly high to the sky sweet darling and dance with the angels where there is no more fear and no more suffering. We will miss all of you. Our hearts go out to her parents who gave everything to her Darrin Zammit Lupi and Marisa Ford. Rebecca you will always hold a piece of our hearts."

Rebecca had been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, more than a year ago.

Rebecca had been interviewed by this newsroom last May, and spoke about her love of school, and how online learning had made a huge difference in her life.

Just a few hours prior to her passing, her father had posted how Rebecca's breathing had become shallower, but she was "very peaceful and serene."

The Malta Independent sends our condolences to her family.
